GHOSTS TROUNCE RAINIERS 10-1

(Caspar) The Caspar Ghosts lit up Randy Johnson for 5 runs in an 8-run 6th
and Pedro Martinez pitched a cool 3-hitter as the NC East champs took a 1-0
lead in the National Conference DCS, 10-1. Jeff Bagwell had 2 HR and 4 rbi
for CSP.

Seattle scored first on an rbi single by Raul Mondesi in the 4th. Eric
Davis robbed Rainier catcher Sandy Martinez of a 2-run extra base hit to
end that inning. Caspar got a run back in the home 4th on an RJ error, a
single and an infield out by Rondell White. Then, in the 6th, Caspar jumped
all over Johnson, driving him from the game with a barrage of hits that
included Bagwell's first HR and rbi 2b by Davis and 2-run 2b by Kent. A
second (3-run) HR by Bagwell off of Rod Beck pretty much sealed the win for
Caspar.

Martinez was dominant, striking out 8 and allowing just 3 singles in a
route going effort.

SPENCER, RAINIERS EVEN SERIES

(Caspar) 28-year-old rookie Stan Spencer pitched 5+ effective innings in a
surprise start as Seattle defeated Caspar 6-4 in game two of their NC DCS
match. Raul Mondesi (HR, 2B), Shane Mack (HR) and Lance Johnson (2B) each
had 3 hits to pace the Rainier offense. Mike Munoz and Rich Garces teamed
up to close out the win that sends the series to New Sick's Stadium tied
1-1.

GHOSTS WIN CONTROVERSY FILLED GAME

(Seattle) Pinch hitter Darryl Strawberry singled in Jeff Bagwell in the
top of the 8th to break a 1-1 tie and send Caspar to a 4-1 win over Seattle
in game three of the NC DCS. Raul Mondesi had homered in the 7th to tie
the game 1-1. The game featured a controversial safe call on a what
appeared to be a routine out at first base -- Chipper Jones was called safe
with 1 out in the 7th and Rainier firstbaseman Will Clark was subsequently
ejected for arguing the call. This ejection forced Seattle to play without
the DH, as DH J.T. Snow had to come into the game as 1B. Co-manager Don
Singleton was later ejected in the decisive 8th after a balk was called on
Rainier reliever Rich Garces putting Ghost Jeff Bagwell at second.
Singleton briefly argued the call. But when Strawberry drove Bagwell home
with a single one pitch after the balk, Singleton was excused from the game
for providing additional commentary. The real story of the game, however,
was the continued inability of the Rainiers to hit -- CSP limited the R's
to just 4 hits. Vic Darrensbourg, who surrendered the game tying homer to
Mondesi (BS), was the vulture winner for CSP.

PEDRO, GHOSTS OUTDUEL RANDY AND R'S

(Seattle) Pedro Martinez, going on short rest, pitched shutout ball into
the 8th and the CSP offense knicked Randy Johnson, also on short rest, for
1 run in 6 innings, as the Ghosts topped Seattle 2-0 at New Sick's Stadium.
3 straight singles in the first (Bagwell, Redmond, White) gave the Ghosts
the run they would need, although an unearned run in the 7th made for some
breathing room. Crucial DP turned by the solid CSP defense snuffed two
pseudo-rallies by Seattle. For the second game in a row, an ejection
forced a team to play without the DH -- this time CSP 3B Chipper Jones was
ejected for arguing an out call on a steal attempt and DH Ledesma was
forced to replace Jones in the field. Pedro Martinez, batting in Jones'
old spot, scored the unearned insurance run in 7th after reaching on a Will
Clark error.

GHOSTS CLOSE OUT R'S

(Seattle) Caspar built an early 5-0 lead and withstood a furious final
Seattle comeback to prevail 5-4 and take the NC DCS 4 games to 1. The win
was costly, however, as 1B Jeff Bagwell will be lost to the Ghosts for the
NCCS after sustaining a severe ankle injury on a successful steal attempt
in the first inning. Rainier Game Two hero Stan Spencer didn't fool the
Ghosts the second time 'round and took the loss after yielding 4 runs (3
earned) in 3 innings. Mussina limited SEA to a solo HR by Butch Huskey in
his 5 innings of work, earning the win. A 3-run triple by Lance Johnson
brought the R's to 5-4 with 2 out in the bottom of the 9th, but Ligtenberg
was able to induce J.T. Snow to ground out to Garciaparra and end the
series, sending Seattle home for the second autumn in a row.
