Game 1: TAC 000 402 000 - 6 10 1 SJC 200 030 30x - 8 10 0 W - Mesa 1-0 S - Wall (3) L - Christiansen 0-1 HR - McGwire (4), Lampkin (1), Gaetti (1) Alan adopts a no-intentional walk policy early, and Mark McGwire promptly smacks a two-run homer with Rickey Henderson on 2nd in the first inning. Tacoma comes back in the 4th inning, however, as the first five hitters reach base off starter Jeff Fassero to take a 4-2 lead. The Canusis retake the lead in the 5th inning, when Tom Lampkin leads off with a homer, and a John Smoltz error loaded the bases for post-season phenom Jeromy Burnitz, who doubled in two runs for a 5-4 lead. In the 6th inning, Alex Gonzalez doubles in a run, but Mike Lieberthal gets caught trying to score, costing the Black Adders a run, as the next hitter Mike Cameron triples, to regain the lead. In the 7th inning, Jeromy Burnitz races to 3rd base on a Sean Berry single and scores the tying run on a passed ball. Pinch hitter Gary Gaetti then hits the deciding two-run homer.
Game 2: TAC 000 001 300 - 4 9 1 SJC 000 001 22x - 5 12 0 W - Rocker 1-1 S - Wall (3) L - Christiansen 0-2 HR - Stairs (3), Burnitz (4), Henderson (1) Steve Parris walks three batters in the first, but escapes damage by holding the Black Adders to just two hits in the first five innings. Roger Clemens strikes out eight in the first five innings. Matt Stairs leads off the sixth with a homer to break the tie. Jeromy Burnitz answers with a leadoff homer in the bottom of the inning. In the seventh inning, the hitters finally take over. Paul Bako doubles, and Alex Gonzalez singles. Luis Gonzalez follows with a one-out two-RBI single, advances to third on a Stairs hit, and scores on a wild pitch by Parris. Barry Larkin responds by doubling Roger Clemens out of the game, and Rickey Henderson takes reliever C.J. Nitkowski deep. The Canusis continue to load the bases, but fail to push the tying run across. Mark McLemore triples to lead off the 9th inning, and Gary Gaetti comes through with another key pinch hit to drive him in. Gaetti is erased by a double play, but Henderson reaches on a Craig Biggio error, steals 2nd base, and then scores on Mark McGwire's single. Tacoma threatens in the 9th, but Quentin McCracken (H range) makes the final catch on a ball over his head.
SJC continues their domination of TAC in game 3 as John Smoltz goes rapidly
from 'perfect' to 'pathetic'. A Rickey Henderson steal of home completely
flummoxes the easily-rattled hurler. The TAC bullpen pitches their best
ball of the series once the game is out of hand, although Terry Adams was
banished during his first batter for allegedly throwing an 'illegal pitch'.
Authorities became suspicious of Adams when they noticed the pitch was
actually over the plate and was not smacked over the fence - a rarity for
an Adams delivery.

Avoiding the embarassment of being swept, TAC wins game 4 on a two-out,
ninth inning single by Mike Lieberthal after (again!) the pen blows
another lead. Eternal malcontent Gary Sheffield was yanked rudely off the
field in the fifth inning for misplaying a ball for approximately the
umpteenth time, which undoubtedly had much to do with TAC's inspirational
play thereafter.
