The Devils take game 6 of the series 6-2 behind 6.2 innings of quality pitching by
Chuck Finley, winning the series 4-2.
After giving up 3 runs in the 1st inning, ABQ's Orlando Hernandez settled in
scattering 3 hits and 2 runs over the next 6 innings of work. Hernandez's efforts
proved too late as his counter-part was able to stall the Thunderbird's offense,
holding them to 9 hits and 2 runs. Once the Devil's bullpen took over the ABQ hitters
were unable to mount any sort of credible threat.
Doubles by Javier, Martinez and Crespo and a 2-run home run by Hundley proved to be
all the offense the Devils would need.

The Devils used some dominant pitching by Kenny Rogers, who pitched a complete
game 4-hitter and walked just one batter, to limit the Thunderbirds to one run,
and some power display by Edgar Martinez, who blasted two homers, to take a
3-2 series lead. Jarrod Washburn gave up 3 runs in 7 innings to take the loss.
The win was another costly one for the Devils, however, as Robin Ventura was
injured on a steal attempt by Albuquerque's Luis Matos. Ventura left the game
and is expected to be out for the rest of the series and, if the Devils
advance, Game 1 of the ACCS. The Devils are thus down to 12 healthy position
players for Game 6 of the Division Series.

In an exciting game, the Thunderbirds built an early 4-0 lead against the
Devils and Armando Reynoso, only to see the Devils chip away the lead
gradually, with Doug Mirabelli tying the game at 4 with a solo homer in the
6th. The pitchers blanked both teams until the 10th, when Joe Randa led off
against Mike Stanton with a single. After Randa was erased on a David Segui
grounder, Chris Truby ran for Segui, and Mike Bordick doubled him home. The
Devils managed to get the leadoff man on in the bottom of the 10th, but could
not do anything more, as ex-Devil Curt Leskanic held them off for the save.
Woody Williams went 9 innings for the win, while Stanton picked up the loss.
Segui led the Thunderbirds' offense with a double and a homer, and Randa,
Luis Matos, and Mike Darr had two hits each. Melvin Mora and Stan Javier each
had a single and a double for the Devils.
Game 5 will probably be on Sunday at 2:30 PST/5:30 EST.

The Devils jumped off to an 11-0 lead early, and then had to hold off furious
Thunderbird rallies, as they held on for a 14-10 win. Rolando Arrojo picked up
the win for the Devils despite giving up 7 runs in 5.1 innings, while Jarrod
Washburn picked up the loss for the Thunderbirds. Robin Ventura paced the
Devil attack with two homers -- a grand slam and a 3-run shot. Jim Edmonds
also homered. B. J. Surhoff homered for the Thunderbirds.
The win allowed the Devils to take a 2-1 lead in the division series, but was
costly; in the first, while trying to score on a grounder, first baseman Jason
Giambi collided with Thunderbird catcher Ben Molina. Molina was not injured,
but Giambi is expected to miss the rest of the division series.
