SPO-CSP Series

Games 4 and 5 will be played Monday, starting at 9 Eastern.

Casper won game 1 7-5 behind Pedro Martinez, who was dominant through five, and pitched well through 7. Spokane tallied three off of Eric Gagne in the eighth to make it close.

Game 2 belonged to Tim Wakefield and Eric Gregg behind the plate. After allowing Jeff Bagwell IFR double to lead off the game, Wakefield then recorded 26 straight outs. With two outs in teh ninth he ran into trouble, allowing a Bagwell single and walking Tim Salmon and Chipper Jones before inducing a Brad Wilkerson fly-out to end the game. Mike Mussina was himself dominant, after allowing four early singles to fall behind 1-0, Mussina retired the last 21 batters he faced. Jeff Kent was injured early and missed this game and all of game 3.

After an offday to fly to Spokane, the nip-and-tuck series resumed. Spokane got park? driven runs in the second and third and Corey Lidle dominated through 7 with a 2-0 lead. However, in the top of the 8th, the Ghosts strung together five hits to take a 4-2 lead. Spokane clambered back in the ninth with a game tying double from Shawn Green with only one out. But Eric Gagne, who allowed the runs, settled down and struck out Mark DeRosa and Adrian Beltre to send the game to extra innings. The game ended up going 12 innings until Nomar Garciaparra popped a three-run home run off of Jason Isringhausen. Arthur Rhodes pitched three scoreless innings for the win.
